Patchouli Oil RC
Patchouli Oil Standard is a natural aromatic essential oil obtained from the leaves of Pogostemon cablin. It has a characteristic deep, earthy, woody, herbaceous and slightly sweet balsamic aroma with excellent tenacity. It is widely used in fine fragrance, incense, agarbatti, dhoop, bakhoor, perfume compounds, soaps, cosmetics and aromatic products.
The RC (Rectified/Refined) grade is typically processed to provide a cleaner, more consistent olfactory profile and improved batch-to-batch usability compared with conventional crude patchouli oil. Exact specifications should always be confirmed against the supplier’s current COA.

Technical Applications
1. Agarbatti & Dhoop
Patchouli Oil Standard RC can be used as a base-note material and natural woody modifier in incense compositions.
It contributes:
- Deep earthy body
- Long-lasting residual aroma
- Woody-balsamic character
- Better base-note richness
- Natural complexity to synthetic accords
- Support for musk, amber, sandalwood and floral compositions
2. Perfume Compound
Particularly useful in:
- Woody perfumes
- Oud accords
- Amber compositions
- Musk accords
- Chypre-style fragrances
- Rose-patchouli accords
- Sandalwood compositions
- Bakhoor
- Oriental fragrances
3. Soap & Personal Care
Used as an aromatic ingredient in:
- Bath soaps
- Fragrance bases
- Body products
- Cosmetic fragrance compositions
- Herbal/aromatic formulations
Use only at levels appropriate to the finished-product safety standard and applicable IFRA requirements.
Performance in Agarbatti
Patchouli Oil Standard RC is not primarily a high-impact top-note diffuser. Its major value is in the middle-to-base structure.
For an agarbatti compound, it can provide:
Top → initial aromatic lift
Middle → earthy/herbal body
Base → long-lasting woody-patchouli character
For stronger diffusion, Patchouli Oil is generally paired with suitable aroma chemicals such as Iso E Super, Hedione, Galaxolide, Ambroxan or other appropriate woody/musk materials, depending on the target fragrance.
This allows the natural oil to provide character while modern aroma chemicals can be used to control projection, diffusion and persistence.
Technical Positioning
For fragrance development, I would classify Patchouli Oil Standard RC as:
Olfactive Role: Natural Base / Modifier
Primary Function: Body + Tenacity
Diffusion: Medium
Persistence: High
Natural Character: High
Earthiness: High
Woody Character: High
Sweetness: Low–Medium
Freshness: Low
Best Combination: Woody + Amber + Musk + Floral + Oud accords
